Another Self-Serving F&DS Article
by serenitynow! ini don't know why i keep reading this crap.
the april 15, 2011 kool-aid edition has an article entitled: do you discern the evidence of gods guidance?
the article starts out with how the isrealites followed the "pillar of cloud and fire" which was evidence of god's guidance until they got to the "promised land.

BOTR, may I suggest you read Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time"? I had to read it three times before fireworks started going off in my brain. It's brilliant and written in such a way that anyone with a reasonably good mind (including unnamed crotchety old miserable curmudgeons with bees up their asses) can understand.

Not sure, Hubert, but I don't think there is anything formal in that regard. I can tell you my wife attended the RC funeral mass of my mother, and my wife's not one to do anything that compromises her faith in the WTS. She also attended a Baptist funeral of one friend but not the RC funeral of another. Could it be one of those rare things left up to the conscience of the individual?

What's Your Favourite Way to Treat a Bad Cold?
by lifelong humanist ini've been suffering from a really bad cold, with flu-type symptoms, for almost a week now.
very unusual for me.. it couldn't have come at a worse time, as i've just started working as a self-employed person, working outdoors in all weathers.
no sick pay, so no money coming in.. i expect that i'll be ok for monday, though.. i'm right in the middle of making a homemade lamb curry.

My wife swears by Cold FX.
I consume a lot of red wine as a prevenative measure. I get a cold every decade or so. Then I consume more red wine and don't feel so miserable. Single malt's good, too.

Hey there, im stuck in. Situtation here is different. She's been in for over 30 years, I never was. It has been a contentious issue since day 1 and my approach over the years has been poor. I get angry, she respectfully, often tearfully, defends her faith in God and the WTS as if it was the same. To her it is the same. That is her reality and to let go of it before she is ready would be as traumatic as an amputation. My approach has changed over the past few months. It's been less emotional and more factual, but gaining real ground isn't apparent. Still, I will continue the conversation for as long as it takes, even though there are days I feel exactly the way you do. Like giving up and going away someplace. But I won't do that, and neither will you. You love her, she loves you and nothing is worth giving that up for. Nothing.
Here's the advice part, since you are seeking some. You might want to ask yourself, is this issue so important that you will break your heart and hers over it? Is it because the WTS hurts people and you just want it out of your lives? Well, you can work on that. Be a good man. Let your words and actions be beyond reproach. Spend more time with her. Love her unconditionaly but let her know your conviction that the WTS is not what it represents itself to be is strong and you are no longer able to allow it to be the third person in your marriage. But also let her know that you will allow nothing to come between you, not even this. If she is going to leave the Watchtower, it must be of her own accord. If she leaves only because she loves you she will be unhappy in life, and if she's unhappy you will be too. She needs to know that you are not her enemy and you need to know that she is not yours. Your enemy is the Watchtower and your goal, even if it takes you years to accomplish it, is to undermine the WTS bit by bit and ultimately free her from its grip.

Is the American empire on the brink of collapse?
by slimboyfat inhistorian niall ferguson made some extended remarks recently arguing that the american empire may be closer to the edge than many suppose.. he starts out observing that while the fateful decline of american supremacy is now widely accepted, it is still generally expected that this will be a protracted process.
after all empires don't fall in a day.
rome took centuries to crumble did it not?

Curtains, with respect (genuine respect, villabolo) colouring between the lines on political maps representing military treaty rights, particularly of nations that are completely sovereign, is not anything like a parallel depiction of empire, where sovereinty is assumed by the imperialist mother country. Big red Canada defied the US when it went on its ill-advised and illegal war on Iraq in 2003. Same goes for France, Greenland, New Zealand and other nations also coloured red on your map, who were promptly shat upon by the Bush administration. Not the same.

What are you all doing here, on this board, with such vast knowledge at your disposal?
I'm retired, I'm entirely independent and I'm interested in other people who demonstrate the ability to think, even if, perhaps especially if, they don't agree with me. Mostly I'm here to learn all I can about the WTS so that I may become expert at debunking it. And, although you said not to, what are you doing here?
